Ghana 1980's home jersey
Having been a powerhouse of the African game in the 1960s, Ghana lost importance over the next decade and it was not until the early 1980s that the Black Stars began to restore their reputation. A fourth CAF Africa Cup of Nations title was won in 1982 with a penalty shootout victory over hosts Libya. Striker George Alhassan finished top scorer with four goals and the tournament saw the debut of Abedi Pele, a future Ghanaian legend in the making. Another brilliant striker, Tony Yeboah, would emerge a few years later. Ghana's coach, Charles Gyamfi, made history at the tournaments in 1963 and 1965. He left after that second victory and returned 17 years later on the eve of the 1982 tournament to miraculously repeat his earlier exploits.
