RB Leipzig is a very new club as it was founded in 2009! The real name of the club is RasenBallsport Leipzig but the club is often mistakenly called Red Bull Leipzig because the club is owned by the company Red Bull which also owns Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and the New York Red Bulls in MLS, satellite clubs of RB Leipzig. However, in Germany it is forbidden for a club to have a company name. Therefore, the directors chose RasenBallsport which means "ball sport on grass" and kept the same initials (RB) as Red Bull. The club took the colours of the brand: red and white and renamed the stadium Red Bull Arena. The club's logo is similar to that of Salzburg and NY Red Bull with the two red bulls symbolising the brand. The club sometimes has a negative image in Germany as opposed to the historical clubs that have built up a strong history over the years and with fervent supporters. Fans of Werder Bremen or Borussia Dortmund consider that the club is only successful because the management has invested heavily and the stadium lacks fervour.
RBL has been climbing the ladder of German football and achieved promotion to the Bundesliga in 2016. The German club has had an incredible run of success, finishing runners-up in their first season in the top flight and competing in European competitions for the first time in their history, including the prestigious Champions League and Europa League the following season.
To achieve this, the club has invested in young players such as Joshua Kimmich, Yussuf Poulsen, the current captain and most capped player of the club, and Timo Werner, the club's top scorer with 95 goals. It is this policy of training young players that has enabled the club to become an important club in Germany and Europe. In the 2019-2020 season, RB Leipzig reached the semi-finals of the Champions League but failed to reach the final against PSG.
Despite being a very young club, RB Leipzig has established itself as a powerhouse of German football like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund, only lacking major titles.
RB Leipzig Home Shirt
The RB Leipzig home shirt is mainly white with a simple design. The side stripes are red with red and yellow zig-zagging. The collar is red and the shirt sponsor is obviously Red Bull. Like all German clubs, the jersey has a "RB Leipzig" flocking at the top. RB Leipzig shirts are available for men, women and children and are available in all sizes.
RB Leipzig Away Shirt
American equipment manufacturer Nike has designed a blue RB Leipzig away shirt that is not one of the club's colours but a brand colour. The collar and side stripes are orange while the RBL, Nike and Red Bull logos are yellow.
RB Leipzig Third Shirt
RB Leipzig's third shirt is totally original. Nike has unveiled a third shirt with a blue and dark blue camouflage design. The shirt is inspired by Nike's Air Max 90 collection, but the players have never worn this shirt in the Bundesliga. Nike unveiled an alternative red shirt with a very simple design because the Leipzig third shirt had similar colours to the away shirt. Nike designed the shirt so that the club would have a different colour to match the colours of the other clubs they play.
