Chasing a return to Ligue 1 for the first time since 1950, the Red Star's form this season gave little hope of promotion. As veteran René Bliard retired in the summer of 1963, much of the responsibility for the attack rested on the shoulders of his former partner, Daniel Rodighiéro, who did not disappoint in the end. Although Jean Avellaneda's team finished their Ligue 2 season in eleventh place, Rodighiéro was the club's best player and won at the end of the season in Ligue 1 with Rennes.
