Frank Clark had the unenviable task of replacing the legendary Brian Clough as manager of Nottingham Forest in 1993, but against all odds, he put together a new team with a new identity. Based on the experience of Stuart Pearce and with well-chosen additions like Stan Collymore, Colin Cooper and Lars Bohinen, Forest were promoted to the Premier League in 1994 and finished an excellent third the following season.Collymore left that summer to join Liverpool, but the 1995-96 season was still a success thanks to a fine run to the quarterfinals of the UEFA Cup. The 1996-97 season was more difficult and Clark left Forest in the middle of a relegation battle, which the club would eventually lose.
