With veterans such as Heinz Hermann and Alain Sutter still an integral part of the Swiss scene in the early 1990s, a new generation of young attacking talent is emerging to complement them with players such as Stéphane Chapuisat, Kubilay Turkilmaz and Adrian Knup.Qualification for the 1992 European Championship seemed entirely feasible until the end of the campaign, when the Swiss lost a two-goal lead at half-time to draw at home to eventual group winners Scotland.
