The 1985-86 season turned out to be a sad one for Ipswich Town, with theEast Anglia club losing its place in the First Division for the first time since 1968. With only Paul Cooper and Terry Butcher from the golden age of the early 80s still in the team, Bobby Ferguson's team struggled against the drop throughout the season, although they came very close to staying in contention at the end. Kevin Wilson was once again Town's main menace, scoring 15 goals over the course of the season.
