After a twelve year wait since the premier League First Division titleIrlande, 2005 was the year that Cork City finally won a second title. City and Derry had been impossible to separate throughout the season and faced off in the final round, with Derry leading by just point - and the home side needing nothing more than a win to overtake them in the standings. The Rebel Army started strong and had several chances to take the lead before leading scorer John O'Flynn gave them the lead in the first half. A nervous period ensued until City's dominance brought a second goal, the title goal, by Liam Kearney.
