Home jersey Sweden 1970's
Swedish football failed to build on its great success to reach the 1958 World Cup final and the following decade was a frustration as the national team failed to qualify for a major international tournament. The 1970s saw a return to form thanks to a new generation of players, a number of whom, like their predecessors of the 1950s, played in the strongest leagues in Europe. The generation of the 1950s had made their name in Serie A, while the stars of the 1970s were doing the same in the Bundesliga and Eredivisie. Sweden qualified for successive World Cup tournaments in 1970, 1974 and 1978 and played with distinction thanks to goalkeeper Ronny Hellström, midfielders Conny Torstensson and Benno Magnusson and forwards Roland Sandberg and Ralf Edström.
