Apart from promotion to Oberliga West in 1949, Die Arminen enjoyed little sporting success in post-war German soccer. Relegation from the II. Oberliga, Die Arminen were condemned to remain in the regional tier of German soccer, their dreams of Bundesliga never seeming to go away. But with great resilience, Arminia returned to winning ways with promotion to the West Regional in 1962, which eventually led to the club's grail, Bundesliga, in 1970.
