For the 1982/83 season, Berchem Sport was hoping to regain the Belgian first division spot they had lost in 1981. The influential Stan van den Buys left the club and despite the efforts of striker Harry van den Ham, Dick Advocaat and former PSV player Paul Postuma, goals were hard to come by and the club finished 14th in Division II.
